October News from Indivisible Alta-Pasadena
The November 3rd election day is fast approaching – today marks 2 weeks until Election Day! Over the next few weeks it will be crucial to get ballots returned early and share election resources and information with friends and neighbors. We have compiled a list of voter guides as part of our Election resources. LA Taco also just posted an excellent interactive Guide to Voter Guides which is well-worth checking out!

Highlights from Election Events
In September we carpooled to Bakersfield (CD-22) to knock doors for Democratic candidate for congress, Randy Villegas.

Flipping this Central Valley seat is crucial to winning the House. Visit the campaign website to volunteer or donate: https://www.villegasforcongress.com/
Also in September, several of our group's members attended an Election Protection workshop & training at East LA Community College organized by the state-wide coalition We Are California, and the LA-based coalition, Love Powers LA .

In October our group gathered in Altadena to write GOTV messages to voters in California. So far we have mailed 440 postcards.

This past weekend we joined the Dena community for a great day at the No Kings Early Vote rally that was organized by our friends at San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible.

What's Next?
After the Oct 17th No Kings, Indivisible National are hosting two webinars on election defense on October 21st and 22nd.

Legislation Updates
The end of September marked the deadline for Governor Newsom to sign or veto bills that passed the legislature in 2026. You can see the fate for of the bills we worked on throughout 2026 on our Legislation Page. In summary, 10 bills that we supported are now law along with an additional 19 Indivisible CA: State Strong Priority Bills!

Unfortunately one bill we supported, AB 1537 (Bryan) No Side Jobs For ICE was vetoed by the Governor, which was extremely disappointing. Indivisible Alta-Pasadena joined a press conference at LA City Hall representing Indivisible CA groups. We are proud to have been part of the coalition supporting AB 1537 and look forward to continuing to work with immigrant rights groups on legislation next year.

Currently the legislature is on break and preparing to introduce new bills in 2027.
Already looking ahead to next year, our state senator Sasha Renée Pérez hosted a Town Hall on Immigration Policy at Pasadena Community College. This was a panel discussion with local immigration non-profit organizations including representatives from Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL). Panelists discussed updates on the surge in immigration enforcement activity, and how the non-profits are responding to support impacted community members, as well as know-your-rights information and discussions on legislation.
To stay informed on the recent ICE surge in SoCal, and how you can help, we recommend donating, volunteering or sharing news from our local mutual aid and rapid response groups Pasadena Migrant Solidarity Collective (PMSC), and Grupo Auto Defensa.

Senator Perez has announced two more townhalls in October.
